In early spring, as snow and ice still cling to the land across Liaoning province, tiny golden ice lilies bravely break through the frost and fallen leaves, bringing the first warm hint of the season.

Known as "North China's First Flower," these delicate blooms usually appear in mid-March. They are responsive to sunlight – opening fully under the sun and folding gently inward as temperatures drop at dusk.
