A new project is underway to green nearly 2,700 hectares of sand on the edge of the Taklimakan Desert. Workers are leveling dunes and installing drip irrigation pipes to strengthen the green ecological barrier. Completed in November 2024, the 3,046-kilometer "green scarf" encircling the desert is the world's longest of its kind. It was named one of the "2025 Top 10 Global Engineering Achievements" by the World Federation of Engineering Organizations.
