As spring sets in, magnolia flowers bloom at Beijing's Temple of Heaven. Their white petals stand out against the red walls and buildings of the historic complex's Fasting Palace, creating a calm, simple seasonal scene.

The Fasting Palace was once used for imperial rituals. Emperors of the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties would stay here in the days leading up to the ancient Heaven Worship Ceremony.
