A troop of northern pig-tailed macaques have been recorded for the first time in the Lancang River Nature Reserve in southwest China's Yunnan Province. A national first-class protected species, the monkeys were seen foraging and playing in shallow waters. Listed as Vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, the species is rarely spotted in the wild. Local conservation efforts in recent years have helped restore ecosystems and boost biodiversity in the area.
