Ronnie O'Sullivan produced a historic moment on Friday with a 153 break – the highest in professional snooker history – on his way to a 5-0 whitewash of Ryan Day at the WST World Open in Shangrao, east China's Jiangxi Province.

England's seven-time world champion set the record in the opening frame, surpassing the previous mark of 148 compiled by Scotland's Jamie Burnett in 2004.

"I feel blessed to be able to achieve these things," the 50-year-old said. "I'm sure long past when I'm not here, there'll still be people going, 'That was pretty cool what that guy's done'."

O'Sullivan, known as "The Rocket," advanced to the semifinals, where he will face China's Wu Yize.

The 22-year-old rising star booked his place with a 5-1 win over Northern Ireland's Mark Allen, highlighted by a 140 break in the second frame.

World No. 1 Judd Trump will meet Thailand's Thepchaiya Un-Nooh in the other semifinal match.

Trump defeated Iran's Hossein Vafaei 5-1, while Thepchaiya beat England's Gary Wilson by the same score.

The semifinals will take place on Saturday, with the final set for Sunday.
