China's AI robot 'traffic officers' manage marathon race

The 2026 West Lake Half Marathon kicked off in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, on Sunday, drawing 10,000 runners from 27,000 registrants. For the first time in a large-scale marathon, AI traffic management robots were deployed at multiple points, demonstrating real-time command capabilities. Using voice prompts, robotic arm gestures and precise positioning, they helped optimize traffic flow along the race route.
