In the first two months of 2026, foreign trade in China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region surged by 36% year-on-year to reach 71.22 billion yuan ($11.03 billion). This figure outpaced the national average by 17.7 percentage points, according to Urumqi Customs. 

Trade with Belt and Road partner countries accounted for over 90% of the total, with Central Asia, ASEAN, and Russia as key markets. Machinery and electronic products became the top export category, while imports of metal ores and agricultural products drove much of the import growth.
