China called on all parties involved in the Ukraine crisis to pursue dialogue and political solutions, emphasizing that negotiations are the only viable path to peace.

Speaking at a United Nations Security Council session on Monday, China's Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Sun Lei said China has consistently promoted dialogue and political resolution since the outbreak of the crisis. He outlined China's "Four Shoulds" guiding its approach: the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries should be respected; the purposes and principles of the UN Charter should be upheld; legitimate security concerns of all nations should be addressed; and all efforts conducive to peace should be supported.

Sun stressed that all relevant parties should participate in the peace process, seek common ground while preserving differences, and work to build consensus through negotiations.

"Russia and Ukraine are neighbors. What they need is goodwill, not hatred; mutual respect, not confrontation," Sun said. He urged both sides to consider their fundamental and long-term interests, address each other's legitimate concerns, and strive for a comprehensive, lasting and binding peace agreement.

He described the Ukraine crisis as the culmination of Europe's security contradictions, stemming from long-standing deficits in trust and security. Sun called on all parties to learn from the crisis, uphold the principle of indivisible security, and work toward a balanced, effective and sustainable regional security framework to ensure long-term peace in Europe.

Sun emphasized that conflicts and wars have no winners, and an early ceasefire and political settlement remain the only viable path. Sun reaffirmed China's commitment to an objective and fair stance. He pledged that Beijing would continue efforts to promote dialogue, maintain communication with relevant parties and support a political resolution of the crisis.
