Two exhibitions have been launched concurrently at Beijing's Red Brick Art Museum: Aurora, a large-scale solo show by Chinese artist Fu Rao, and Primordial Paths – the Asian debut show of Ethiopian artist Tesfaye Urgessa. Curated by museum director Yan Shijie, the dual shows unite artists whose creative journeys transcend geographical and spiritual boundaries.

Though from distinct cultural backgrounds, both artists received systematic art education in Germany and use painting to engage with the world – yet their visual languages differ. Fu Rao's works blend Eastern subtlety with Western textural richness, exploring connections between humanity, the universe, matter, spirit, life and death through the meticulous use of color.

In contrast, Tesfaye Urgessa confronts displacement and ethnic conflict amid global strife. His powerful figurative works highlight individual resilience and dignity, reflecting on the human condition.
