The US is weighing sending about 3,000 troops to support military operations in Iran, The New York Times reported on Monday citing senior defense officials.
Two US officials said the USS Tripoli and the USS New Orleans, along with roughly 2,200 Marines from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, will cross into US Central Command, which is responsible for US forces in the Middle East, on Friday, The Wall Street Journal reported.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said on Monday no talks with the US had occurred during the 24 days since the start of the conflict, adding that Iran's position on the Strait of Hormuz and conditions for ending the conflict remain unchanged.
Iran's IRGC said it launched its 78th wave of strikes targeting Eilat, Dimona, northern Tel Aviv, and some US bases in the region early on Tuesday, Tasnim News Agency reported.
