The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) reported Earth's energy imbalance reached a record high in 2025, with 2015-2025 the hottest 11 years on record. Last year was among the hottest years – 1.43°C above pre-industrial levels, bringing extreme heat, rain and cyclones. Over 91% of excess heat is stored in oceans, while 3% melts glaciers, raising sea levels and acidifying oceans.
