China's special envoy on the Middle East issue met with Russia's ambassador to China on Thursday, with both sides expressing concern over escalating tensions in the Middle East and calling for a ceasefire.

Zhai Jun, the Chinese envoy, said regional tensions remain high with spillover effects becoming increasingly evident, drawing close international attention.

He noted that China and Russia, both permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, support a ceasefire and the launch of dialogue and negotiations, and should work together to uphold international fairness and justice while helping ease tensions.

Ambassador Igor Morgulov said Russia is deeply concerned about the continued escalation and is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with China to make every effort to promote a ceasefire and safeguard regional peace and stability.
