China urges all relevant parties to the raging Iran conflict to work in the same direction and create conditions for launching truly meaningful and sincere peace talks, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Thursday.

Spokesperson Lin Jian made the remarks at a daily press briefing in response to a related query, adding China is ready to continue playing a constructive role in the above-mentioned endeavor.

The protracted conflict is not in the interest of either side, said Lin, stressing that continuing the war will only lead to more casualties and unnecessary losses, and cause more spillover effects.

He said the most urgent task now is to actively promote peace talks and seize the opportunity for peace to push for an end to the fighting, adding that China supports all efforts conducive to the de-escalation of tensions.
