A Chinese defense spokesperson on Thursday slammed Taiwan leader Lai Ching-te's recent remarks, saying his obsequious behavior towards Japan and colonialism is despicable.

Jiang Bin, spokesperson for China's Ministry of National Defense, made the remarks at a regular press briefing in response to Lai's claims that Japan's colonization of of China's Taiwan was intended to promote the so-called "Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere," which sparked discontent on the island.

In disregard of the innumerable crimes and atrocities committed by Japanese aggressors against hundreds of thousands of Taiwan compatriots, Lai distorts history and whitewashes colonial atrocities, he said, adding that such a national traitor will be nailed to the historical pillar of ignominy.
