Chinese President Xi Jinping visited a high school in the Xiongan New Area, Hebei Province, on Monday, encouraging students to grow alongside the district and contribute to Chinese modernization.

Xiongan campus of Beijing No. 4 High School officially opened in the fall of 2023, with over 380 students enrolled and 80 teachers and staff members. The school is one of the key projects aimed at meeting the basic needs of families relocated along with government agencies and companies following the establishment of Xiongan to invigorate Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei in north China.

Speaking to CGTN's Huang Yue, Principal Huang Chun recalled a small but memorable moment during the visit.

"As soon as President Xi entered the room, I saw him start counting, though I didn't know what he was counting," Principal Huang said.

President Xi later told him that, although the class has many students, only eight are wearing glasses, less than a third of the class. Principal Huang said that President Xi was very pleased by this observation and noted that, in other schools, he often sees half the class, or even the entire class, wearing glasses.

Reflecting on President Xi's visit, Chinese teacher Ma Jingxuan told CGTN it was truly inspiring. She emphasized the importance of continuing to support the builders of Xiongan and the parents of the children feel confident and secure in settling down in the district so they can fully contribute to the development of the district.
