A Chinese military spokesperson on Friday urged the Philippines to control its forces, stop provocative actions and cease smear campaigns.

On March 25, Chinese Navy Ship PLANS 532 was patrolling near Zhubi Jiao in China's Nansha Qundao when it detected a Philippine Navy ship, said Zhai Shichen, a spokesperson for the People's Liberation Army Southern Theater Command.

Despite repeated radio warnings, the Philippine vessel changed course and dangerously approached PLANS 532, disrupting its navigation, Zhai noted.

PLANS 532 took measures to avoid a collision, he added.

The spokesperson called the Philippine ship's actions unsafe and unprofessional, dismissing claims of a "dangerous approach" by the Chinese ship.

The Southern Theater Command remains vigilant to protect China's sovereignty in the South China Sea, Zhai added.
