John Lee, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), on Friday met with Singaporean Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong. Lee said the HKSAR and Singapore will continue to deepen cooperation, and bring more opportunities to Asia.

Wong arrived in Hong Kong on Thursday for a three-day visit.

Lee said the HKSAR and Singapore actively champion free trade and multilateralism, support international organizations such as the World Trade Organization and the United Nations, and oppose unilateralism and protectionism.

Thanking Singapore for its continued support of Hong Kong's accession to the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, Lee said Hong Kong remains committed to promoting regional cooperation and economic synergy.

Noting that both Hong Kong and Singapore are international trade and financial hubs, the chief executive said both sides emphasize the rule of law and free trade, and possess high-quality professional services and talent.

Lee said he looks forward to promoting broader and deeper cooperation in areas such as trade, tourism, culture, civil service exchanges and people-to-people ties in the future with Singapore.

Leveraging its unique strengths under "One Country, Two Systems," Hong Kong remains closely connected to the world while enjoying strong support from the motherland, Lee said, reiterating that the city will actively serve as a "super connector" and a "super value-adder," and assist Singaporean firms in tapping into the mainland market to create new avenues for investors and enterprises.
