As the Qingming Festival approaches, Meizhou Island in Putian, southeast China's Fujian Province welcomes its annual "Mazu's return home" folk celebration. According to legend, Lin Mo, who was born here over a thousand years ago, was later revered as Mazu—the Goddess of the Sea—protector of sailors and seafarers. She is deeply respected by Chinese communities at home and abroad, with more than 300 million followers worldwide.

The Meizhou Mazu Temple, first built in 987, is the world's first Mazu temple and is widely regarded as the spiritual homeland for Mazu devotees around the globe. At this time each year, Mazu statues from different regions return to Meizhou to pay homage to their ancestral temple.
