Nepal Police on Saturday morning arrested KP Sharma Oli, the country's former prime minister and chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist Leninist), and former home minister Ramesh Lekhak for their alleged involvement in suppressing the Gen Z protest in September 2025, which took dozens of lives.
They were arrested a day after Balendra Shah was sworn in as Nepal's new prime minister.
The first cabinet meeting of the Balendra Shah government, held on Friday evening, decided to implement the recommendations of an inquiry commission formed to investigate atrocities committed on September 8, 2025 during the Gen Z protests and arson and destruction of properties on September 9.
