Lying on the southern edge of the Badain Jaran Desert in northwest China, Jinchang is a key water-scarce city. Thanks to river regulation, pollution control and strict water quality monitoring, the reservoir's ecosystem has greatly improved. Over 100 species of migratory birds linger into spring here.
