China has launched a major national science and technology project in Shanghai: Deep-Sea Floating Island. The world's first ultra-large marine research platform is designed to support breakthroughs in marine science, resources and advanced ocean equipment. Featuring an innovative semi-submersible twin-hull design, the platform can test deep-sea equipment weighing hundreds of tons and support exploration at depths of up to 10,000 meters.
