China says countermeasures against Japanese lawmaker in line with law, international practice

CGTN

China said on Monday its decision to take countermeasures against Japanese lawmaker Keiji Furuya over his interference in its internal affairs was justified and in line with international practice.

Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said the measures were taken in accordance with Chinese law to safeguard national sovereignty and core interests, calling the Taiwan question a red line that must not be crossed.

Furuya has repeatedly colluded with "Taiwan independence" separatist forces to stir up trouble, which has seriously interfered in China's internal affairs and severely undermined the country's sovereignty and core interests, the spokesperson said.

She also criticized Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party authorities for seeking external support for political gain at the expense of broader national interests.
