The Yellow River Estuary in Dongying, Shandong Province, is a paradise for birds. Each year during the migratory season, millions of birds gather here to rest and forage, making it an important stopover, wintering area and breeding ground. In July 2024, the Yellow River Estuary was inscribed on the UNESCO World Natural Heritage List as part of the Migratory Bird Sanctuaries along the Coast of the Yellow Sea-Bohai Gulf of China (Phase II).
