This buffalo-shaped bronze vessel is a burial object that belonged to a tribal leader of the Shang Dynasty (1600-1046 BCE). It is adorned with a variety of animal motifs, including dragons, tigers, birds and fish. According to experts, water buffaloes during the Yin Ruins period were still wild, distinct from domesticated cattle. It is precisely this untamed nature that evokes a sense of awe and reverence.
