In a small courtyard in Deqing County, Huzhou, east China's Zhejiang Province, more than 400 stray animals have found refuge over the past seven years.

He Jianying, together with her friend Peng Weiqiang, has devoted herself to caring for abandoned cats and dogs, giving them food, shelter and love. Living in a tiny room at the rescue base, she has poured nearly everything she has into keeping them safe.

Even after being diagnosed with heart problems last year, she kept going. Her biggest wish is simple: for these furry lives to find real homes and loving families.
