Indonesia has condemned attacks on its peacekeepers in Lebanon and called on the United Nations to take immediate steps to protect personnel, according to a press release from the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday.
The release said Indonesia's Permanent Representative to the UN Umar Hadi expressed "deep sorrow, anger, and frustration" during an emergency UN Security Council session over the March 29-30 attacks that killed three Indonesian UNIFIL peacekeepers and injured five others.
The session, convened at Indonesia's request alongside France, highlighted Jakarta's long-standing commitment to UN peacekeeping.
Indonesia criticized repeated Israeli military actions in southern Lebanon, describing them as a direct threat to world peace and potential war crimes under international law.
"We demand an immediate investigation by the United Nations, not just excuses from Israel," Umar said.
The statement also called for the rapid and dignified repatriation of the fallen, comprehensive care for the wounded, guarantees from all parties to respect international law, and urgent UN measures to protect UNIFIL personnel.
