In April 1935, during the Long March—a major strategic military operation by the Chinese Red Army—the Fourth Front Army passed through Qinglinkou Ancient Town in Jiangyou, Sichuan Province. The Fourth Front Army was one of the Red Army's main forces, and the 30th Army was a unit under its command. Its headquarters were set up here.
The Red Army established a soviet (a local revolutionary government) in the town, spread revolutionary ideas, and left many stone carvings and painted slogans on rocks and walls. Among them, the slogan "The Red Army is the savior of the Chinese nation and the working people" remains the largest surviving Red Army painted slogan in all of China. During the Red Army's withdrawal, a female soldier surnamed Liu was wounded and stayed behind. Unfortunately, she was captured and died a hero on Heyi Bridge. To commemorate her, the local people later renamed the bridge "Red Army Bridge."
