Iran's new leader asked the United States for a ceasefire, but the US wants the Hormuz Strait opened first, US President Donald Trump said Wednesday in a Truth Social post.

"lran's New Regime President, much less Radicalized and far more intelligent than his predecessors, has just asked the United States of America for a CEASEFIRE!," Trump wrote. 

"We will consider when Hormuz Strait is open, free, and clear. Until then, we are blasting Iran into oblivion or, as they say, back to the Stone Ages!!!" he wrote.

It is unclear which Iranian leader Trump is referring to in the post.

Iran's state media reported Tuesday that Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian said Iran is ready to halt hostilities on the condition that it is guaranteed against further attacks.

Iran has never sought to create tensions or wage war at any stage, and has sufficient resolve to end the war as long as the necessary conditions are met, especially a credible guarantee to prevent the recurrence of aggression, the president said.
