Spotted seals enjoy sunbath on Changdao Island in Shandong

Western Pacific spotted seals have arrived early at Changdao Island in Shandong Province, with 41 individuals recorded, showing a growing population. Known as "pandas of the sea," they migrate here each spring from Liaodong Bay to enjoy in its clean, food-rich waters. As China's only breeding fin-footed marine mammals, they remain rare, but recent sightings of newborn pups signal improving conservation success.
