French President Emmanuel Macron says a military operation to "liberate" the Strait of Hormuz is unrealistic, urging calm and a return to negotiations over the Iran war.

Speaking in Seoul, Macron also criticized inconsistent US messaging, saying leaders should focus on serious action and building lasting peace rather than making conflicting statements.

Trump has in recent days hit out at France over its lack of support for the US during the Iran war.
