"Dad, mom, it's been decades. I miss you so much." These words were said by 92-year-old Liu Minsheng, a Nanjing Massacre survivor, at a family commemoration for victims of the Nanjing Massacre on April 3, 2026. The commemoration was held before China's traditional Qingming Festival, or Tomb-Sweeping Day, when Chinese pay tribute to the dead. On December 13, 1937, invading Japanese troops captured Nanjing and killed more than 300,000 Chinese civilians and unarmed soldiers in the following six weeks. Liu Minsheng was only 3 at the time. His father was taken by Japanese invaders and was never found afterwards.
