The US later confirmed that the downed aircraft was an F-15E fighter jet, stating that one of its two pilots had been rescued, while the search for the other crew member was ongoing as officials raced to locate the survivor before Iran did. On the same day, US officials confirmed that another aircraft, an A-10 Warthog attack plane, crashed near the Strait of Hormuz. The aircraft had only one pilot, who was safely rescued.
