China is advancing its fight against desertification with large-scale, technology-driven planting efforts in the Taklimakan Desert. Following the completion of a 285-kilometer ecological barrier in 2024, work is now focused on expanding and strengthening the green belt.

In Hotan, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, unmanned tractors powered by the Beidou system are planting trees at high speed, while a mix of sand-fixing plants and economic crops helps balance ecological restoration with local development.
