China's border authorities recorded 6.779 million cross-border trips during the Qingming Festival holiday from April 4 to 6, averaging 2.26 million daily entries and exits, up 9.1% year on year, the National Immigration Administration (NIA) said on Tuesday.

The single-day peak was recorded on Monday with cross-border traffic reaching 2.334 million trips.

NIA said residents from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan accounted for 3.291 million trips during the holiday, a 19.5% increase from a year earlier.

Foreign nationals made 843,000 cross-border trips, up 20.9% year on year. Among inbound foreign travelers, 319,000 entered under visa-free policies, marking a 30.7% increase.

A total of 307,000 inbound and outbound transportation vehicles (including aircraft, vessels, trains, and road vehicles) were inspected, representing a year-on-year increase of 13.3%.

Border inspection authorities nationwide enhanced traffic forecasting and issued timely updates at ports to help travelers better plan their trips during the holiday under NIA's unified deployment.

They also optimized staffing and set up dedicated channels, as a large number of people from the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan region as well as overseas Chinese returned to honor their ancestors, with a relatively high proportion of elderly travelers requiring special assistance.

Authorities strengthened inter-agency coordination to ease congestion during peak periods, ensuring efficient and orderly border crossings nationwide during the holiday.
