China and Russia on Tuesday vetoed a UN Security Council draft resolution on safeguarding shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. China said the draft failed to reflect the root causes and full picture of the conflict in a comprehensive and balanced way, and warned that language on one-sided condemnation and armed escorts could be open to misinterpretation or abuse. The draft received 11 votes in favor, with two abstentions and two vetoes.
