China's Ministry of Natural Resources sent a congratulatory letter on April 7 to the country's 42nd Antarctic expedition for setting a world record. The team drilled 3,413 meters into the ice sheet above Qilin Subglacial Lake in East Antarctica on February 5, surpassing the previous international record of 2,540 meters. It demonstrates the country's capability to conduct deep drilling research across more than 90% of the Antarctic ice sheet and all Arctic ice sheet.
