Village Voyage: Before the icon Bruce Lee, there was Shunde in Foshan

CGTN

05:39

Nunchucks. Dark shades. A yellow jumpsuit. That unmistakable nose wipe. Blinding punches and the snake feint – one name says it all: Bruce Lee, the man who brought Chinese martial arts to the world.

But every legend has a beginning – and his is less well known.

It started in Shunde of Foshan City, south China's Guangdong Province.

Join Julian Waghann from the US and Absalom Absalom from Namibia as they trace Lee's roots – following the footsteps of an icon back to where it all began.

How did a kid from these streets master Wing Chun and forge his own martial arts philosophy? What was the unlikely path that took him all the way to Hollywood? And today, how does his legacy still pulse through the martial artists of his ancestral hometown?

Tap to watch.

Because one truth has never faded: a true warrior's virtue comes before his or her strength.
