For China's Yunnan Dai people, it's the Water Splashing Festival – their cherished traditional holiday. Across Southeast Asia, it's Songkran, the biggest New Year celebration for Thai, Burmese, Laotian and Cambodian people. On the afternoon of the 11th, Ruili City in Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, is  going to host a grand Water Splashing Festival carnival, drawing tens of thousands of participants. This vibrant tradition centers on splashing water to one another: a heartfelt way to send good wishes, wash away misfortunes and welcome a lucky new year.
