Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party has gone to a near hysterical extent in its efforts to suppress and contain China. The US will end up shooting itself in the foot, Mao added during a press briefing in Beijing on Friday. 

Mao made the remarks in response to a media query about reports that the US House select committee set up a whistleblower email tip line, urging US academics, researchers and university faculty to report research cooperation involving entities linked to China's defense and industrial base.
