If there is one place where Taiwan's history can be experienced in its most concentrated form, it is Tainan City. The city's cultural relics and architecture have witnessed successive historical transitions – from the past into present day. At Chihkan Tower and the Yanping Junwang Temple (Koxinga Shrine), we see the cross-Strait connections and the imprint of Chinese culture recorded in history books.
Walking through the streets of China's Taiwan region, it is not difficult to notice that this connection is not only preserved in ancient architecture – it is embedded in the city's most important living fabric. The continuous cultural memory shared across the strait may even be recorded in every roadside sign we pass.
In this episode, join CGTN stringer from New Zealand Andy Boreham as he accompanies cultural historian Yen Cheng-hung in exploring the historical stories and the transmission of Chinese cultural heritage behind Chihkan Tower and the Yanping Junwang Temple.
