Cambodia launches construction of Funan Techo Canal Section II

Cambodia on Saturday broke ground on Section II of the Funan Techo Integrated Water Resources Management Project, developed through a joint venture with China. The landmark initiative is expected to significantly enhance the country's water transport capacity in the years ahead.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wenbin attended and presided over the groundbreaking ceremony.

Hun Manet said the canal will reconnect Cambodia's river systems to the sea, strengthen logistics networks, and support trade and economic growth. Wang Wenbin added that Section II will be carried out by a China–Cambodia joint venture under a public-private partnership model, with both sides working together to deliver tangible benefits for their people.
