Live: Latest on Iran-US tensions after failing to reach deal

Direct negotiations between the United States and Iran ended on April 12 with no breakthrough, as both sides cited an impasse over fundamental issues and a climate of mutual distrust.

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said the negotiations were held in an "atmosphere of mistrust and suspicion," adding that the two sides differed on two to three key issues. Meanwhile, the United States said it had made its "red lines" very clear, but Iran did not accept the US conditions.

US forces will begin implementing a blockade of "all maritime traffic entering and exiting Iranian ports" on April 13 at 10 a.m. Eastern Time, US Central Command said in a statement Sunday, which was posted on social media platform X.

After Trump's statement on Strait of Hormuz naval blockade, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy Command warned Sunday that any "wrong move" in the Strait of Hormuz would trap its enemies in "deadly whirlpools."

The failure to reach an agreement leaves a tense military standoff between the two nations unresolved and raises concerns about the potential for renewed escalation in the region. CGTN brings you the latest.
