China welcomes all efforts conducive to ending the conflict and commends Pakistan for facilitating the temporary ceasefire between the United States and Iran and for playing an impartial and balanced mediating role, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Wednesday.

Guo made the remarks at a regular press briefing after the US side reportedly said that peace talks with Iran will take place in Pakistan over the next two days.

Guo said the top priority is to make every effort to prevent the conflict from reigniting, maintain the hard-won ceasefire momentum, and persist in resolving disputes through political and diplomatic means.

China stands ready to work with the international community to continue to contribute to the early restoration of peace and stability in the Middle East and the Gulf region, he added.
