US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that talks with Iran could resume in Pakistan within the next two days and that the war is close to ending, according to media reports. Earlier in the week, the US imposed a naval blockade on all vessels entering and exiting Iranian ports, which continues to add stress to the world economy. In a recent statement, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Iran is "not seeking unrest" but will not bow to aggression.
Meanwhile, Israel and Lebanon laid out different expectations for a peace deal during talks on Tuesday in Washington. In the US-mediated talks, Israel insisted on Hezbollah's disarmament, and Lebanon called for a ceasefire and concrete measures to ease the severe humanitarian crisis resulting from the ongoing conflict, according to a statement from the US State Department. All sides agreed to launch direct negotiations at a mutually agreed time and venue, said the statement.
