The year 2026 is set to be a pivotal one for the short drama sector amid predictions that artificial intelligence-generated content (AIGC) technologies will redefine production processes, driving the industry toward high-quality content creation and global expansion.
That's according to a white paper jointly released by the Chengdu Culture and Tourism Development Group and Chengdu Media Group at the just-concluded China Internet Audio and Video Convention 2026, in Chengdu.
In a bold move to lead the digital cultural and creative sector, Chengdu Tianfu Kuanzhai Culture Communication Co., Ltd., announced the launch of China's first AI short drama lab during the event. The initiative aims to establish Chengdu as a hub city for cutting-edge digital content innovation.

Zhao Bin, a company representative, revealed that the lab will soon begin a nationwide talent hunt for AI creative minds, targeting top-tier "drama directors and tech experts" from cities like Beijing and Shanghai. The goal is to assemble 50 to 100 elite teams to work within the lab, fostering collaboration between creative artists and technologists.
Unlike traditional content labs, this newly-launched AI short drama lab will prioritize computational empowerment to strengthen the technological foundation of creative projects. Zhao Bin emphasized that the lab's mission extends beyond generating short dramas – it aims to "elevate the scientific and technological value of the entire digital cultural and creative industry."
As the short drama market continues to grow rapidly, industry experts believe the fusion of AI and entertainment showcased at this event will redefine standards for content production, offering a blueprint for sustainable innovation in the digital age.
