Something incredible just happened in Beijing on Sunday at the Beijing E-town Humanoid Robot Half Marathon: more than 12,000 human runners shared the course with over 100 humanoid robot teams.

And the result? A robot took first place.

An autonomous version of the "Lightning" robots, made by smartphone manufacturer Honor, finished the 21.1-kilometer race in 50:26, faster than the current human men's half-marathon world record of 57:20. It's the first time the world has seen something like this on such a scale, and it really makes you think about how fast technology is evolving.

The route itself was beautiful too, starting from Tongming Lake and ending at Nanhaizi Park, passing through some of the most iconic tech and green spaces in the E-town, also known as Yizhuang.
