China unveiled the world's largest wind-assisted propulsion system (WAPS) for ships on Friday in Dalian, northeast China's Liaoning Province.
The rotor sail system stands 35 meters tall with a 5-meter diameter, weighing 150 tonnes. Designed to harness wind energy during navigation, the system provides extra thrust for vessels, cutting fuel consumption by 5% to 25% and significantly reducing carbon emissions.
The WAPS has successfully completed land-based testing, paving the way for future mass production.
