Öttl claims maiden WorldSSP win in red-flagged Race 2, ZXMOTO's Debise places seventh

Philipp Öttl clinched his first-ever FIM Supersport World Championship (WorldSSP) victory in dramatic fashion on Sunday, winning a red-flagged Race 2 at the TT Circuit Assen in the Netherlands. Valentin Debise of Chinese entry ZXMOTO Factory Evan Bros Racing finished seventh.

The German rider, competing for the Feel Racing WorldSSP Team, was leading when the race was halted following a crash, with the results declared final as more than two-thirds of the distance had been completed.

Öttl's win marked his maiden victory in the category, while also making him the 70th different winner in WorldSSP history, and doubled as his first triumph since a Moto3 chequered flag back in 2018.

The race unfolded in tricky, mixed conditions, with the riders gambling on slick tires despite a wet and blustery track. As the surface gradually dried, a tightly-packed lead group emerged, with multiple contenders separated by less than a second in the early stages.

Can Öncü and Albert Arenas were among the early frontrunners, trading positions at the head of the pack, while Öttl steadily worked his way into contention. The German moved up to second place midway through the race, before taking the lead on the 10th lap, just before the red flag brought the proceedings to an abrupt end.

Arenas ended up second to claim his fourth podium from the opening three rounds of the season, while Öncü rounded out the awards stand with his first top-three finish of 2026.

Behind the leading trio, Tom Booth-Amos produced an impressive recovery ride from 11th on the grid to place fourth, with Alessandro Zaccone completing the top five and Jaume Masia coming in sixth to retain the overall championship lead.

The race was stopped after an incident involving Roberto Garcia, who was later reported to have suffered only minor injuries.
