China's first domestically built 8G95 marine liquefied natural gas dual-fuel engine was delivered on Tuesday in Dalian, northeast China's Liaoning Province, marking a breakthrough in the country's construction of dual-fuel engines in this power class. The engine will be installed on 24,000-TEU and 21,000-TEU ultra-large container ships.
The model, named 8G95ME-C10.5-GI-EcoEGR, stands 16 meters tall and weighs more than 1,600 tonnes. It can generate up to 74,725 horsepower, making it the most powerful high-pressure natural gas dual-fuel engine currently built in China.
During the design and development process, the research team overcame several key technical challenges, including high-pressure direct natural gas injection into cylinders, high-pressure exhaust gas recirculation and dynamic cylinder control.
