China and Cambodia reached a six-point consensus during the first meeting between the foreign ministers and defense ministers of both countries under the "2+2" strategic dialogue mechanism, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told the media during a briefing on the outcomes of the meeting on Thursday.
The first "2+2" strategic dialogue mechanism was held in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, on Wednesday, aiming at enhancing bilateral cooperation in various fields.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said that both sides agreed to strengthen mutual support, with a focus on safeguarding each other's core interests. China welcomed Cambodia's reaffirmation of its firm adherence to the one-China principle, its support for China's reunification efforts, and its backing of China-proposed global initiatives.
The two countries also agreed to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, with an emphasis on helping Cambodia enhance its capacity for independent development. Priority areas include advancing the "Industrial Development Corridor," the "Fish and Rice Corridor," and advancing the Funan Techo Canal Project.
On political and security cooperation, both sides agreed to strengthen coordination to safeguard the security of their respective political systems and oppose external interference, including "color revolutions."
In the area of law enforcement, the two countries pledged to intensify cooperation to combat online gambling and telecom fraud, aiming to better protect people's lives and property and create a more stable environment for bilateral cooperation.
On defense cooperation, both sides agreed to deepen military ties, with China supporting Cambodia in accelerating the development of its national defense capabilities to better safeguard its sovereignty, security, and development interests.
Finally, both sides committed to enhancing coordination in international and regional affairs, opposing hegemonism and power politics, supporting free trade, and upholding the role of the United Nations.
